*”…if people don’t remember that I played football that is fine because football is what I did, it is not who I am.” – Shannon Sharpe
This past month of international futbol competition culminating with France’s winning of the top spot gained by the skill of a predominantly African-French squad got us in our peak performance feelings. Seeing PAUL POGBA on a rain-soaked field holding the World Cup trophy in one hand as he clutched a photo of his late father, Fassou, in another got us thinking about A LOVE GREATER THAN THE GAME, and what factors motivate an athlete to be the absolute best beyond physical ability.
One of the best to ever play the game of American football is SHANNON SHARPE, this week’s Friday Drop feature of ICON MANN’s IN CONVERSATION WITH… A Pro Football Hall of Famer, Shannon is also a 3x Super Bowl Champion, 8x Pro Bowler, and Co-Host of Fox Sport’s SKIP AND SHANNON: UNDISPUTED. An enviable CV of physical and mental toughness by any accord, but these things are not the defining measure and composition of Shannon Sharpe. For that, you would have had to know MRS. MARY PORTER, and then you could understand what a love greater than the game truly looks like and the greatness it inspires. To all of the Mrs. Mary’s and Mr. Fassou’s out there, we honor you!
