Scarediego Promises Big Chills From ‘The Nun,’ ‘La Llorona’ and a New ‘Annabelle’ film

*New Line Cinema held their 2^nd annual ScareDiego earlier this week in San Diego. The event featured never-before seen footage from their upcoming horror slate.

Guests assembled at the Horton Grand theatre to check out clips from two James Wan-produced films The Curse of Llorona and next entry from The Conjuring Universe, The Nun.

“The Curse of La Llorona” is based on the Mexican folktale about a woman who walked in on her husband cheating with a younger woman. Distraught at the discovery, she drowned her two young sons in a jealous rage and committed suicide. The weeping woman – la llorona in Spanish – is cursed to roam the Earth looking for other children to snatch away and call her own.

Cast members Patricia Velasquez and Raymond Cruz (Major Crimes) were in attendance and shared that they grew up hearing tales of La Llorona and were excited that people outside of the Latin community will now be frightened by her story. The film takes place in the 70’s and centers on Linda Cardellini (Freaks and Geeks) – who was there too – as a social worker whose children become the target of La Llorona.

“The Nun” director Corin Hardy and actresses Taissa Farmiga and Ingrid Bisu shared some pretty scary experiences that went down on the set while filming in Romania.

Hitting theatres September 7, “The Nun” tells the origin story of the demon nun featured in “The Conjuring 2.” It takes place in a Romanian convent where a nun has recently committed suicide.

As if the creepy clips shown weren’t enough to freak out the audience, when the lights went up faceless nuns lined the walls, chanting to keep the mysterious spirits at bay.

Guests were also treated to an advance look at “IT Chapter 2,” which promised to “crank up the horror.” And the announcement that the next “Annabelle” movie will also drop in 2019.

The film will see the Warrens bring the demon doll back to their artifact room, where she awakens the other items in it and targets their daughter Judy.
