*Keith Wilson has a busy schedule. On top of working his way up the ranks in Corporate America, he’s now at the helm of an emerging technology startup.

The marketing executive turned tech startup founder is burning the candles at both ends. When he out the office he’s building out his mobile app, Kompass Events.

Kompass is an event-sharing platform known as the “Waze of events.” The mobile application leverages innovative heat map technology to allow users to share, discover and explore events in their favorite cities.

One of the most inventive features of the platform is that its use of real-time heat technology. The innovative software gives users a “bird’s-eye view” of what’s going on from an “events perspective but also an engagement perspective.” If space is busy the venue shades red. If it’s quiet users will see splotches of blue.

The team is currently integrating “geo-fence” technology that will make it easier for cellphones to spot nearby events.

The Clark Atlanta MBA graduate first come up the concept of Kompass after working and living in varies cities at home and abroad, included a stint in Shanghai China working with Ford Motors.

“This validated my assumption that there are thousands of people who have to move to places they don’t know about who have the same issue I had and there are millions of people who travel to destinations that are either new or common but still have difficulty finding things to do in those places because they’re not “plugged in” socially,” said Wilson, founder and CEO of Kompass Events.

The app was officially launched earlier this year. Since the January launch, there’s been promising growth and impact in the market. The site has experienced impressive growth, including a database of over 25,000 events in an industry that sees over 2 million events per year.

Despite many offerings in events management, “there was no dominant player in the events discovery space,” Wilson said in an interview with UrbanGeekz. “I felt there was still an un-severed need in the marketplace. When I asked family and friends how they find out what’s going on when you’re going places or traveling I still had people tell me that they listen to the radio or have to ask people on Facebook for recommendations. I saw a whitespace opportunity and I thought why not try to develop a solution.”

With the growing buzz around the brand, including tons of press coverage, Kompass is starting to extend its offering to collaborative partnerships.

This month they partnered with Atlanta-based startup Vendorspace for the inaugural Eventology Hackathon.

“We’ve partnered with event tech startup Vendorspace to help promoters and event planners plan, develop and execute their events more effectively using new tech such as Kompass and Vendorspace. When attendees leave from this event they will have a comprehensive event management template that includes marketing collateral, access to new tech platforms and valuable relationships with other event enthusiasts in the area,” said Wilson.

Kompass is going from strength to strength. We’ll certainly hear from Wilson this year.
