*Joe Jackson, the patriarch of the Jackson family of singers which includes the pop icons Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson, has died, TMZ reports. He was 89.

Family sources say he passed away at 3:30 a.m. this morning (June 27) in L.A.

TMZ reported that he was hospitalized earlier this month with terminal cancer and his family had been rushing to his bedside since. His wife, Katherine, had been at his bedside as were some of Joe’s children and grandchildren.

Jackson was also hospitalized back in 2016 after coming down with a high fever. But, he recovered soon after and was seen partying in Vegas. His health was also fragile after a stroke and three heart attacks back in 2015. Doctors implanted a pacemaker.

Jackson was born to Samuel Jackson, a university professor, and Crystal Lee King, in Fountain Hill, Arkansas, on July 26, 1928. He was the eldest of five children, which included brothers Lawrence and Luther and sisters Lula Mae and Verna Mae.

Joe had 10 kids with Katherine, his wife of more than 60 years. The two were separated and had a strained relationship for the last years of his life, but they frequently interacted.
