*Los Angeles – Award-winning Photojournalist Haywood Galbreath with be at Antioch University, located at 400 Corporate Pointe, Culver City, California 90230, on July 18, 2018 for his book signing, Q&A and fund-raising event to expand photography classes for underprivileged inner-city youth.
Haywood Galbreath is a well-respected photojournalist with over 30 years of experience. During this time, he’s had the privilege and honor of documenting some of the most high-profile news stories in the country. As well as photographing prominent individuals in politics, news, sports and entertainment.
Haywood has constructed an extraordinary photojournalism book that he’s especially proud of, filled with historical and iconic images he’s shot during his career. The book also includes feature photography showcasing nature, architecture and visual human interest stories.
But this book has even more meaning than simply producing a wonderfully artistic photography publication. Several years ago Haywood founded an organization (MPJI), to teach inner-city youth photography. His organization is designed to give them an outlet where they can perfect their talent. It is also an avenue to steer them away from their hopeless environment surrounded by gang violence, and toward a much brighter future filled with endless possibilities. He teamed with the Inglewood Pacific Links Chapter of Links Incorporated, and for the past eight years he’s taught a photography class atInglewood High School in Inglewood, California, sponsored by Links.
To his surprise, it has become an award-winning program. As an added bonus, a high percentage of the students have gone on to pursue college educations. In 2013, Haywood was honored by the Ford Motor Company with the Unsung Hero Award for Education, for the success of the photography program. The program had such a positive impact on several of the young men, it prompted them to establish successful photography businesses.
MPJI is asking that you to purchase the book or donate what you can, so that it will enable them to donate copies to district libraries. In addition to purchasing updated equipment and computers for the students to use, as well as money for the young men to take much needed field-trips.
Most of these young men come from single-parent homes and have never ventured more than a few miles away from their neighborhoods. The field-trips give these young men an opportunity to learn photography in different environments, as well as discovering and appreciating a world outside of their own. It also changes their outlook on life, and opens them up to a completely different mindset.
Through your generosity, it will help MPJI to continue the photography program at Inglewood High School. PLUS, it will give them additional monies to expand the program to other schools in underprivileged areas.
