*LL Cool J spoke recently about his personal motivation to help fund cancer research after his wife, Simone, survived bone cancer following a diagnosis in 2004.

“Economics is always a big issue . . . and that is a bigger issue that affects everything — health, food, nutrition and education,” he told Page Six of finding a cure at the BCRF Hot Pink Party. “That is a much bigger discussion that I can’t do in a sound bite right now. But I will say this is really important that we do research — because that is the only way that we can find a cure — and if we find a cure, then we can figure out to make sure all the people who need the cure have it.”

The gala, which raised $5.5 million, was emceed by Elizabeth Hurley and included a video message from Elton John.

Mary J. Blige performed during the event at the Park Avenue Armory, and LL Cool J told Page Six, “I love Mary’s catalog — there is no favorite Mary song.”
