*In the near future, we could see Barack and Michelle Obama walking a red carpet at an award show. Not because of who they are, but because of what they’ve now become: producers of content for Netflix!
Let us bring you up to date. On Monday, via Twitter, Netflix confirmed that they’re partnering with the Obamas on a multi-year agreement where the former POTUS and FLOTUS will produce films and series for the company. The announcement says the deal could potentially also include “scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries, and features.” Basically, anything is game.

It was back in March that we first heard talk that Barack and Michelle were in talks with Netflix, but the terms of the deal were still unclear.
Back in January, via Netflix, we got an hour-long conversation between President Barack Obama and David Letterman for his “My Guest Needs No Introduction” series.
As previously reported, President Obama doesn’t plan on using the platform to fight sitting president Donald Trump. In fact, the Obamas are more focused on bringing inspirational stories to the forefront. And that’s something we all could use.
Netflix reaches nearly 118 million subscribers around the world, so the Obamas will have a strong media presence.
It’s worth noting also that the Obamas have always been champions of the film industry and at once had close ties with Harvey Weinstein before all his sexual assault allegations surfaced. Their daughter, Malia, even had an internship at the Weinstein Company.
