Shirl Baker received a posthumous degree in her daughter’s honor — weeks after a gunman fatally shot her and three others at the Nashville restaurant on April 22.

“Almost two weeks ago, our community suffered an unimaginable loss,” Belmont University President Robert Fisher said. “While our hearts were broken, today we have the chance to celebrate DeEbony’s life together.”

Baker and her son, Di’Angelo Groves, who also received his diploma, got standing ovations from the crowd during the ceremony.

DeEbony, 21, was studying social work at Belmont University. A scholarship has been established in her name.

Police arrested shooting suspect Travis Reinking, 29, after a two-day manhunt. He’s been charged with four counts of murder.
