Marvel’s Luke Cage (Season 2)

*Netflix and Marvel have released a new full trailer for season two of “Luke Cage,” premiering on the streaming service June 22.

The new season picks up after season 1’s death of Mahershala Ali’s Cottonmouth, whose departure foreshadowed the rise of another villain. While Luke Cage (Michael Colter) returned to Seagate Prison during the Aug. 2017 release of Marvel’s “The Defenders,” season two finds Luke fully free from his imprisoned state and fully embracing his heroic reputation in Harlem. But he’s not the only person with super strength interested in Harlem’s future.

Bushmaster, one of Cage’s most recognizable villains from Marvel Comics lore, is played in the series by Mustafa Shakir.

The trailer pits Cage and Bushmaster against one another, setting the villain up as one of few humans who can actually take on Cage in a bare-knuckle brawl.

Simone Missick reprises her role as Misty Knight, the NYPD detective last seen in “The Defenders.” After leaving that crossover with one arm gone, it appears she gets an upgrade during season two, based on the trailer and above preview pic from Netflix.

Late actor Reg E. Cathey, who died in February of lung cancer, is seen in the “Luke Cage” trailer giving the hero some sage advice. “The darkness that you deal with every day, it can consume you whole if you let it,” Cathey’s character tells Luke. “Don’t let it.”

From Cheo Hodari Coker, “Luke Cage” arrives June 22 on Netflix.
