*We’ve got bad news concerning the health of actress Nichelle Nichols a/k/a Lieutenant Uhura in the original “Star Trek” TV series. Nichols, 85, is suffering from severe short-term memory loss and needs protection from being taken advantage of … according to her son.

Kyle Johnson, Nichols’ son filed legal docs Friday nominating 4 fiduciaries to become his mother’s conservators — which would give them control of her finances and decisions related to her health.

According to Johnson, this is necessary because her dementia is “impacting her executive functioning” and makes her “susceptible to undue influence.”

He adds … “Certain individuals have unduly exerted themselves into Ms. Nichols’ life to her detriment.”

Aside from her classic “Star Trek” role, Nichelle Nichols has been very active in Hollywood — she even has 3 projects coming out this year, reports TMZ.

As we reported … she suffered a mild stroke in 2015 …

She may have had a health scare with a recent stroke, but Nichelle Nichols says she is doing great and feeling pretty good.

Chatting with “Entertainment Tonight“’s “Nischelle Turner at her home, the 82-year-old actress confessed her stroke has not slowed her down at all as she assured fans that she is alright.

“I am feeling the best that I felt in a very long time,” a smiling Nichols told Turner while adding that she has no loss of mobility in the wake of her stroke. To hear her tell it, “I am as wild and woolly as I have ever been.”

Nichol’s comments come less than two weeks after she was rushed to the hospital after suffering a mild stroke on June 3. During her hospital stay, Nichols, who is best known for playing Lt. Uhura on the original “Star Trek” series and six of the film adaptations of the classic show, underwent testing to determine the severity of the incident.

According to “ET,” Nichols began an inpatient rehabilitation and recovery program two days later.

In her interview, the groundbreaking entertainer went on to reveal how she was able to get past her stroke, saying it all came from using a coping technique she learned from her parents.

“Things I can’t deal with and have no say over, I deny them,” Nichols shared with “ET.” “And strangely enough most times they go away. So this was one of those times.”
