R. Kelly Won’t be Performing at Chicago Area ‘Love Jam’ Concert at UIC Pavilion

*Bad boy and nasty man, R. Kelly is getting his comeuppance it appears by getting dropped from this coming weekend’s “Love Jam” concert at UIC Pavilion, according to Ticketmaster.com.

Kelly was removed from the lineup after protests over his history of alleged sexual misconduct.

A note on the Ticketmaster website reads: “R. Kelly is no longer performing.” No other information was provided.

A Kelly representative told the Chicago Tribune:

“We have received no official notice of any changes in plans for the May 5 concert, and R. Kelly has been looking forward to performing for his fans in his hometown.”

A letter to Michael Amiridis, the chancellor of the University of Illinois at Chicago, circulated last week asking the university to cancel the concert.

“To host the concert at UIC is to condone the harm that he has done to African American women and girls, create a hostile work environment for Black women who work, study and live at UIC, and promotes rape culture,” the letter read.

The “Love Jam” concert on May 5 will feature Xscap3, K. Michelle and Lyfe Jennings.

*Tom Joyner has had enough. He won’t be playing anymore R. Kelly music on his radio show anytime soon. It all started when #MeToo founder, Tarana Burke appeared on Jacque Reid‘s Inside Her Story segment on the Tom Joyner Morning Show earlier this week.

Because of Kelly’s most recent accusations of giving a woman an STD and training others to be sex pets, Burke appeared on the show as part of her continued her fight against sexual violence and those that prey on young black and brown women, including the two-decade-old allegations against the singer.

Burke went on to explain by supporting Kelly’s music, consumers are keeping him “wealthy.” Then things got kinda interesting. At that point, she called out the TJMS for their “support” over the years of the 51-year-old singer (they, like many stations, still play his music, even having him on the 2015 Tom Joyner Foundation Fantastic Voyage Cruise).
