Opinion: The Black Hat/Kanye West Thinks for Himself (Black People Should Give It a Try)

kanye west, donald trump, african americans, social media, twitter,

*It’s ironic that so many people are celebrating the early release of a lawbreaking rapper named “Meek Mill” (who was supposed to serve a multi-year prison sentence for violating his parole); and yet, for the last 24 hours, critics on Twitter have unleashed hell on Kanye West for his decision to publicly endorse Pres. Donald Trump.

The backlash he’s getting is just another example of what happens when a prominent black figure articulates a thought that clashes with the majority. And like many others before him, West is being tagged with the “coon” label because he’s choosing to think for himself, rather than follow the crowd. That’s right – despite popular opinion, African Americans are hardwired to support the same causes, believe in the same God, and vote for the same politicians. It’s called “groupthink.” But thankfully, West is choosing to walk his own path.

Last time I checked, Mr. West and his inner circle have never been charged with any serious crimes, nor is he popular for slinging rap lyrics that glorify drug use, gang violence and the blatant sexualization of women. Can the same be said about Meek Mill?

Don’t worry, that’s a rhetorical question.

I get it – black people hate Donald Trump because he’s a racist, a misogynist, a “bully,” a demagogue, an elitist, and a really really bad person (sad face).

Ironically, Tupac is a beloved figure in the black community despite his many encounters with the law, allegations of sexual assault and battery against women, and oh let’s not forget his persona was based on the idea that he was a “thug” (which perpetuates a stereotype that black men simply can’t escape).

But hey, who cares that Tupac spent most of his adult life appearing in court, serving time in jail, and battling lawsuits. Black people love him anyway. And yet, Trump is labeled a “villain” because he, like most rappers, prefers to push the envelope rather than cater to the whims and fickle emotions of the general public (especially niggas).

If I recall, Jay Z was a dope dealer before he gave rap a try. He often brags about it in his music, and have we all forgotten the infamous footage of Beyonce’s baby sister Solange taking swipes and aiming kicks at Jay Z because of his infidelity? So let’s get this straight – Jay Z is a former drug dealer and has admitted to cheating on his wife and the mother of his children, but hip hops fans and black people in general still admire Jay Z as if he’s the pope, despite his transgressions. Yet, for some reason, Donald Trump is described as a “monster” within the black community (even though he’s guilty of the same crimes that most rappers and ball players commit). Very smart.

In a recording that was secretly taped 11 years ago, Donald Trump says “I grabbed her by the pussy” – a statement that niggas (especially black women) have all decried on social media thousands of times. But in 2011, “gangsta” rapper YG released a song called “Bitches Aint Shit [But Hoes And Tricks],” and whenever it plays on the radio, black people suddenly feel the urge to dance and sing along. Dumb motherfuckers.

Oh I’m not finished … there’s more.

Donald Trump is perceived as a “racist” in the black community because of a few comments he’s made about immigrants and Haiti. For starters, Haiti is indeed a shithole – there are pictures and video footage to prove it.

But more importantly, it’s rather hypocritical for blacks to call Trump “racist” while Louis Farrakhan is a beloved figure among Negroes despite his anti-Semitic convictions and public speeches.

That eliminates the whole “Trump should be held to a higher moral standard because he’s the president” theory. Farrakhan is a man of the cloth and he routinely calls whites “blue eyed devils” … and there’s no shortage of proof to confirm his animosity toward Jews. That means he’s a racist too right? And still blacks hang on his every word as if he’s infallible.

Oh and by the way, there are dozens of nigga preachers and pastors across the country who break more of God’s laws than Trump could ever fathom. Why aren’t these men and women being held to a higher moral standard? I’ll tell you why – it’s because black people have always pointed fingers at everyone else instead of making an effort to fix themselves.

But I digress … let me get back to hip hop.

Black people love Cardi B – the 25 year old stripper-turned-rapper who twerked on stage at Coachella this year despite being VERY pregnant. And her rival, Nicki Minaj, is the most sexually grotesque entertainer on the planet – but she’s admired and desired in ghettos across the United Sates. These women have millions of black female fans, but for some reason Trump is constantly labeled a “misogynist” by the same women who support Nicki Minaj and Cardi B.

So here’s the million dollar question: if Trump doesn’t respect women, then how should we categorize Minaj and Cardi B? They obviously don’t respect themselves, and their antics highlight the double standard of women condemning men for being “sexist pigs,” while blatantly objectifying their own bodies.

I wanna finish this off by addressing the folks who have accused Trump of being an elitist. You’re right – he is. Then again, what do you call a rapper that constantly brags about how much money he makes and how much better he is than you are? Yup, that’s another rhetorical question … but i’ll give you a hint – they’re elitists too (but in an unsophisticated, buffoonish kinda way). And still, rap is the among the most popular genres in music – niggas love it!

Boy am I tired of pointing out all the hypocrisy.

So the moral of this story is simple – while Kanye West will probably lose a substantial portion of his fanbase due to his political views, he’ll regain something far more valuable – the ability to express how he feels without worrying about public perception. That freedom is priceless (and to be frank, he’s already profited millions from blacks buying his albums over the years anyway).

In other words, he no longer gives a fuck about what any of you Negroes think – your purpose in his life is complete, and like the Democratic Party, when Kanye decides that he needs you again, he’ll flip the switch and Tweet something “pro black” to recapture your support. It’s a proven method.
