*”Rampage” is a film with a gigantic albino silverback gorilla, grey wolves, crocodiles and – oh, yeah! – the biggest movie star in the world.

With that combination, when Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“The Walking Dead”) was sent the script, he felt it was an offer he couldn’t refuse.

“Someone calls and you’re asked to be in a movie with Dwayne (“The Rock” Johnson, star of the film) and it’s got monsters in it,” Morgan said excitedly at the recent press conference for the film. “I mean, it’s sort of what you dream about as a little kid, even though I’m way older than he is.”

Morgan, who plays Agent Harvey Russell, a mysterious government agent in the film who works for an agency called OGA, also had strong words of praise for the film’s director, Brad Peyton.

“Brad, he’s so on top of it,” Morgan said. “I mean, today you have a lot of green screen and there’s a lot of looking at tennis balls, but we could also see he was meticulous in his prep, that he had scenes done on a kind of iPad, that we could see (his ideas for scenes) on. Thank God, because when you’re talking about big monsters and big buildings, it really helped a lot.”

Though Morgan is currently best known for his role as one of the most frightening villains of all time, Negan on the horror TV show “The Walking Dead”, his Agent Harvey Russell character occupies more of a gray area. We don’t know until the end of the film if the character is truly good or bad.

However, in a film with a big star, bigger buildings and even bigger monsters, Morgan gives credit to Peyton for having his character still stand out.

“I have to give props to our director,” said Morgan. “He really had this idea of what Russell was going to be and (the audience’s) introduction to him. He was cool – and Peyton had all the details for the character in his head.”

“He was like, ‘We’re gonna start with the cowboy boots and we’re gonna come up with a big-ass belt buckle’,” he laughed. “It was a whole visual thing and at first I was like, ‘Whoa! That’s a lot!’ and I actually thought it might be too much. But, the week after..we started picking out belt buckles and guns..and he wears the gun in a place you could never wear it in real life! It was so cool!”

“So, the wardrobe for this character became more distinct the more I talked to Brad – and he really talked me into it,” Morgan concluded. “By the end I was like, ‘How big can I go?”
