Top Five Black Athletes Who Are Also Watch Ambassadors

*Brand ambassadors are incredibly important to any business, no matter how big or small, and this is certainly no different for the luxury watch industry. Ambassadors allow a company to bridge the gap between product and consumer, and are an invaluable tool when it comes to marketing a product and personifying the values of the company.

Being an ambassador is also an amazing opportunity for representing a brand and garnering massive amounts of exposure.

It’s a win-win situation for both the ambassador and the brand, and is something that a lot of luxury Swiss watch companies have always historically endorsed. For example, Omega has many leading actors such as George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, and Daniel Craig on board, and this creates more interest in the product and leads to the development of the industry as a whole, which in turn has created a large online marketplace for watch owners to trade luxury timepieces.

With that in mind, we’ll take a look at five of the top black athletes and the watch brands they endorse.

Serena Williams – Audemars Piguet

One of the great tennis players of all time along with her sister Venus, Serena Williams has been a giant of the sport and has ranked number one in the Women’s Tennis Association on eight separate occasions from 2005 – 2017. As a famous face in the sport, it’s no wonder that Audemars Piguet, a luxury Swiss watch brand, would want to be associated with a sportswoman of such unrivaled skill. Her watch of choice? The Royal Oak Offshore in rose gold. Williams is back to winning form after taking a 14-month maternity leave, and will no doubt attempt to increase her Grand Slam count to 24.

LeBron James – Audemars Piguet

Sporting a custom designed Royal Oak Offshore in the same vein as Serena Williams, LeBron James was also chosen by Audemars Piguet to represent their watches and brand. As one of the greatest NBA players of all time, this is certainly a prudent strategy. While he started off playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers, he switched to represent Miami Heat for four seasons before ultimately ending his contract and returning to the Cavaliers. Holding three NBA championships, LeBron is a force to be reckoned with at all times.

Tiger Woods – Rolex

Tiger Woods is no amateur when it comes to sponsorships. The professional golfer, who is among the best and most successful in the world (with 14 majors), has been an ambassador for Tudor and well as TAG Heuer. He left both of those brands, however, and now represents Rolex, proudly wearing a Sea-Dweller with every hole in one he gets.

Kobe Bryant – Hublot

While he has since retired from the game, Kobe Bryant was another basketball player endorsed by a luxury watch brand. In this case, it was Hublot. Spanning a career of twenty years with the Los Angeles Lakers, Bryant has five NBA championships, is an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team and a 12-time member of the All-Defensive Team. Kobe recently won an Oscar for Best Animated Short and took the chance to hit back at Fox News host Laura Ingraham for her “shut up and dribble” comments to LeBron James. A man with a career this huge deserves a watch of equal stature, which is why he sports his King Power “Black Mamba”off the court.

Dwyane Wade – Hublot

Bringing the heat (because he plays for the Miami Heat), Dwayne Wade is Miami’s all-time leader in many facets of the game. With three NBA championships and as a 12-time NBA All-Star, Wade was picked up as an ambassador for Hublot and currently wears his custom and signature watch, the King Power “D-Wade.” The watch features the same color scheme as Miami Heat’s uniform, and proceeds from the sale of the watch are given to Wade’s charity, the Wade World Foundation.
