Hosea Helps Honors Champions Against Injustice at First Annual Awards Brunch

Dikembe Mutombo Receives “Hero of the Year” Award

*Hosea Helps closed out the month of February with its First Annual “Hosea’s Heroes” Award Brunch, presented by Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport at the Loudermilk Conference Center in Atlanta.

Hosted by Porsha Williams and radio personality Big Tigger, the event honored individuals who have served diligently as champions against poverty and social injustice in the Atlanta community and beyond.

The organization is named in honor of Hosea Williams, a civil rights leader, minister, philanthropist and also the trusted lieutenant of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC). He was an integral part of the Civil Rights Movement and led Georgia’s biggest civil rights march. Porsha Williams is his granddaughter.

Dikembe Mutombo, NBA Hall of Famer and current Global NBA Ambassador received the most coveted “Hero of the Year” Award for his exceptional humanitarian efforts through his Dikembe Mutombo Foundation.

Other 2018 award recipients were Councilman Ivory Young, visual artist Fabian Williams, LaSandra Boykin of Delta Air Lines, CBS Radio’s Reggie Rouse, Richard Dunn of Muddy Water Group, Terrie Randolph, Rev. Hosea Williams’ Assistant for over 30 years and Tyrone Brooks, former Georgia State Rep.

“This is an opportunity for the next generation to pick up the mantle left before us to love, serve, and rebuild our communities together. We want to honor the legacy of Reverend Hosea Williams and build a bridge between social justice organizations, the business community and young professionals in the City of Atlanta,” says Mr.Daniel Dickey, Chairman of the Hosea Helps – Young Professional Influencers Advisory Board. “The responsibility of setting forth a new standard and creating a new normal rests on the shoulders of the next generation of doers, thinkers, creatives and millennials; supported by the alliance of our host committee represented by organizations like Goodr, National Action Network, United Way, Black Lives Matter, Urban League of Greater Atlanta, WSBTV, CBS 46 and more.”

The award brunch,  keynoted by James Bailey of the Phoenix Leadership Foundation, consisted of concept dishes and complimentary mimosas provided courtesy of Korbel. It featured a wonderfully curated art exhibit by honoree Fabian Williams that included his work and the work of UN Humanitarian of the Year Award Winner Jim Hill; and a live performance by Mr. Daniel Dickey featuring the Chris Moten Trap Jazz Experience.
Proceeds from the “Hosea’s Heroes” Award Brunch will benefit Hosea Helps’ ongoing mission to serve those in need in Atlanta and across the world.
