*Rapper/activist Killer Mike has pissed off a lot (black) folks because of the views he recently shared via a new gun ownership video interview he did for the National Rifle Association/NRA
He sat down with NRATV host and gun advocate Colion Noir, to speak on his support of gun ownership. And if you know Killer Mike, you know he didn’t hold back. Nope, he had no problem expressing opinions that run counter to popular beliefs.
“You can’t continue to be the lackey,” he said. “You’re a lackey of the progressive movement because you’ve never disagreed with the people who tell you what to do.”
He also says he discouraged his children from participating in the mass walkouts by students protesting gun violence.
“I told my kids on the school walkout: ‘I love you…if you walk out that school, walk out my house…’ We are not a family that jumps on every single thing an ally of ours does because some stuff we just don’t agree with.”
“We are raising a generation of kids where everyone gets a trophy. But in real life, everyone don’t get a trophy. In real life, the cops don’t come on time. In real life, depending on where you live, you’re not gonna have the time to try to logic your way out of something.” Check out the interview below.
Even though he raises some interesting points, as we said up top, a lot of folks are unhappy with him basically endorsing the NRA because the organization is believed by many to not care one iota about black people. TheRoot points out that Killer Mike mentioned Jordan Davis without, at least in the video, explicitly calling out the NRA for not supporting his mother. Same with Philando Castile and other black people shot and killed by cops.
Here’s what his detractors had to say:
just to be clear-
killer mike is the reason all of those ppl cling so desperately to their assault rifles in the first place.
a 6′ tall, 300 lb black man is PRECISELY the driving force behind white anxiety.
his very existence is EVERY irrational fear made manifest.but okay.

Dear @KillerMike, it’s possible to support the right to bear arms without appearing as or becoming a proxy for the NRA.

Philando Castile is all I could think about as I watched that @KillerMike video. Why work with the @NRA, even if you love firearms? They stoke fear of guys who look like him, all to sell more guns. I wrote about their ratchet asses last summer for @reader. https://t.co/GjyuMbh9w2

Brother,
I have to respond publicly because your NRA video was public.
1. They aren’t simply a news platform.
2. They’ve abandoned us many times over.
3. They’ve targeted & threatened & cruelly insulted us many times over. @KillerMike – I love you. You played yourself.

In spite of the “incoming” he received over his statement, Killer Mike is sticking with what he said, but we get the impression he won’t be making anymore NRA-TV appearances:
I’m sorry the fact I said it on their channel made folks mad but “blacks shud be armed and training” is something i have and will always say. No more NRA I guess??♂. I don’t need they beef smh lol I’m trying get blacks on their shit and off the sidelines on arms https://t.co/ksj8m0hsji
