Richard & Tina Lawson’s Wearable Art Gala: Empowering Creatives & Honoring Beyonce & Gloria Carter

*This year’s star-studded Wearable Art Gala was held at the Alexandria Ballroom in Los Angeles, CA. The event honored Gloria Carter with the Everyday People Award and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter with WACO Theater Center’s Humanitarian Award.

The annual event presented by Richard and Tina Lawson benefits their newly designed theatrical complex and its mentorship programs, Tina’s Angels and Richard’s Warriors.

WACO (Where Art Can Occur) was represented by all in attendance with a number of eye-catching pieces designed by the founder, and fashion designer Tina Knowles Lawson.

EURweb was on the scene on the red carpet and got a chance to speak with Richard and Tina Lawson, Samuel L. Jackson, Magic & Cookie Johnson, and more. They each gave insight on what it means to give back and empower creatives.

When correspondent Miss Conversation Piece caught up with Richard and Tina Lawson, Richard got teary-eyed explaining what Waco Theatre means to him and his wife. He says “The one thing I admired about her [Tina] is that she was such a giver.”

Samuel L. Jackson gave a gem of knowledge for creatives going through dark moments in their career.

“We all have dark moments when we are in the arts,” a smiling Jackson said. “It’s a risky profession. The point is to commit.”

Magic and Cookie Johnson had some warmhearted words for their friends, Richard and Tina, saying …

“They have the biggest hearts. They give back more than anybody that we know. They understand how to be unselfish and think more about somebody else than themselves.”

Seeing the turnout and speaking to all in attendance, it was evident that WACO Theater Center has an outpouring of support from creatives in fashion, acting, and music. This event is a direct representation of black excellence and the ambience of inspiration touched all in attendance to give and bid on some amazing items in the auction led by Star Jones.
