*Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson invites L.A. city officials and residents to hold a 50 Second Moment of silence at the Celes King Civil Rights monument on Martin Luther King and Crenshaw Blvds. on Wednesday, April 4 at 4:05 PM PST.

This was the exact time that Martin Luther King, Jr. was pronounced dead in Memphis, the victim of an assassin’s bullet 50 years ago.

The Moment of Silence is a call to Los Angeles residents and city officials to recommit to Dr. King’s fight against gun violence, poverty, for civil rights and voting rights and against war.

“Dr. King led the fight against gun violence and was himself a victim of that violence. The 50 second moment of silence is a way for Los Angeles to honor his memory on the 50th anniversary of his assassination,” says Hutchinson says, “It’s a call to city officials and residents to rededicate themselves to Dr. King’s fight in Los Angeles and nationally against poverty, homelessness, and against racial injustice.”
