*The anxiety for the long awaited “Tomb Raider” was at a fever pitch until its arrival. Then like a cold North easterner all hopes were blanketed with layers of snow and ice.
Like the Oscar winning Angelina Jolie who starred in the last “Tomb Raider” game driven franchise, Alicia Vikander is an Oscar winner. Not that you need an Oscar winner for the 2018 reboot, but it helps when the script is lacking.
The of age Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) does not want to claim her inheritance because she refuses to believe her dad is dead. Lord Richard Croft (Dominic West) mysterious disappearance has been haunting her for seven years. She begins the search for him that takes her to a fable tomb on a mystical island off the coast of Japan. Once again, Hollywood has gone the route of letting CGI do most of the work and not investing in content.
Directed by Roar Uthaug, the film also stars Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, and Kristin Scott Thomas.
‘Love, Simon’
Who wouldn’t love Simon (Nick Robinson) after going along with him on his journey to disclosure in this coming of age romantic comedy? Surround by a coterie of close, understanding friends, Simon is no less reluctant to tell them—or his family—he is gay. When a high school adversary finds out, he ultimately blackmails Simon.
Well written, “Love, Simon” draws audiences in as they become invested in the characters.
Directed by Greg Berlanti, the film also stars Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Natasha Rothwell, Keiyrian Lonsdale, Jorge Lendeborg Jr, Clark Moore, and Natasha Rothwell.
