Adrienne Houghton: Well first off, we have to say how sorry we are when we heard about the passing of Della Reese. I know she was like a mother to you.

Loni Love: Yeah.

Adrienne: We all loved her so much on the show.

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: Yes!

Adrienne: Loved her so much

Roma Downey: Yes.

Adrienne: She actually wrote the foreword to your new book, so what do you want people to know about her?

Roma: Gosh, she was just an amazing… an amazing woman. She really was my mother, she — God brought us together, of that, I am certain. And the relationship, if any of you saw Touched By an Angel the relationship on the screen…

Loni: Of course, we saw Touched By an Angel!

Adrienne: Who didn’t see Touched By an Angel?

[The Real audience applauds]

Roma: The relationship that we had on the screen together was reflected very much in our relationship off screen. And when she would get called to the set, um… they would have to give her like a 15-minute warning because she hugged everybody.

Loni: Aww.

Adrienne: I love that.

Roma: She’d come in and she’d hugged everybody. It didn’t matter, it didn’t matter if you were the janitor or if you were the star or the director. She stopped and she saw God in everybody, and she’d put their arms around them and she held them close.

Loni: Wow.

Roma: She was an extraordinary woman, extraordinary.

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: Thank you for that. So sweet.

Tony Rock: I don’t… I don’t know if you know this, that’s all old black women. They do that.

[The Real Hosts laugh]

Tony: Every old black woman, “Come here, come here, baby.”

Adrienne: I love it.

Roma: It’s so nice though, you know I remember when I first met her — and I’m originally from Ireland. You know, I can remember my parents still teaching me to stick my hand out. You know, to shake my hands and be polite. And I remember when I… the day I first met her I did that, [demonstrates handshake] and she just took me in her arms and…

Loni: Aww.

Roma: …and gave me a giant hug. Now when she first met my husband…

Loni: Uh-huh.

Roma: She took him in her arms and I just thought they were hugging. She was whispering in his ear, she said to him, “That’s my baby girl. And if you hurt her, I will have you killed.”

[The Real audience applauds]

Loni: That’s right, all day Della Reese. All day.

Adrienne: Yes! I love it!
