*Michelle Hurd will take on the role of Detective Mary Beth Lacey in CBS’s planned reboot of “Cagney and Lacey.”
“Grey’s Anatomy” actress Sarah Drew will play her partner, Christine Cagney. The 80s police procedural originally starred Tyne Daly as Lacey opposite Cagney’s Sharon Gless. The series ran on CBS for seven seasons, won two best drama Emmys and six lead actress in a drama series trophies — four for Daly and two for Gless.
In the reboot, “Cagney & Lacey will follow the two female police detectives and friends who keep the streets of Los Angeles safe. Drew will play LAPD Detective Cagney, Lacey’s nimble and easygoing partner and protégée. Hurd’s Lacey is athletic, polished, a former high school track and field champion. Empathetic and straightforward, she’s the more experienced partner.”
Lacey was conceived and written as African American in the reboot, which CBS TV Studios is co-producing with MGM Television, according to Deadline.
Hurd is best known for her roles on the soap opera “Another World” and “Law and Order: SVU.” She was recently a series regular on NBC’s “Blindspot” and had recurring roles on “Hawaii Five-O” and “Lethal Weapon.”
