*Taraji P. Henson sat down with Jimmy Fallon this week to promote her latest flick, “Proud Mary,” in which she plays a “natural-born killer” running the streets of Boston.

“I surprised myself!” Henson quipped to Jimmy Fallon on Monday about the physically demanding role. “I’m an actress. This was a role that I dreamt of.”

Henson said she had been dropping hints on Instagram to DC and Marvel Comics producers hoping to get their attention, but of course, they ignored her.

However, Clint Culpepper of Sony’s Screen Gems pitched her the “Proud Mary” script, which initially made Henson feel insecure about her age and whether it was possible to pull off.

“The reason I had to do this film was because usually women after we get 40 they send us out to pasture,” she said. “My point is we see men of all ages over 40 … and they always get these heroic roles. Why don’t you see women like this? All of my friends in the industry look amazing and they’re quite athletic. Why aren’t we all in films like this every year.”

The huge success that the “Empire” actress has had over the years is now taking her behind the camera. Henson has revealed that she will be producing and starring in a film based on the murder of Emmett Till. The project will be helmed by celebrated director John Singleton.

During an interview with GlobalGrind, Henson said, “We don’t have a start date yet, but the deal definitely has been done. That’s one [film] that I’ve been passionate about since Trayvon Martin was murdered.”

Henson will portray Till’s mother, the late Mamie Till-Mobley, in the tentatively titled “The Emmett Till Story.” This collaboration between Henson and Singleton was first mentioned in a February 2017 Vanity Fair round-up of other Till-centric projects that are reportedly in the works, per Paste magazine.
