*If there is one thing Kyra Robinson (pictured) proves, its that beauty and talent can work together. Growing up in the tough neighborhoods of Chicago, Robinson proved that anything is possible and has become an inspiration to all. With her first ever NAACP nomination, Robinson’s self-determination has gotten her to proudly claim the title of being one of the youngest most successful African American woman in the entertainment industry.

Kyra’s mark on the industry is continuing to be felt throughout the country and has opened doors for her as an influential speaker to women and youth, particularly promoting positivity to passionate, determined visionaries. She also recently spoke for the United Negro College Fund in Chicago, where she stressed the importance of higher education and self-determination to young future leaders.

In addition to her work as a Television producer for OWN’s Iyanla Fix My Life, Robinson is taking the technology industry by storm with her new app “Sounds Fun,” which was recently released on the Amazon Echo. Robinson created the app to initiate a fun environment for hosting social events among family, friends or colleagues.

In collaboration with comedian Mike Epps, Kyra is now serving as co-creator and executive producer of the upcoming BET Social Media Awards, which premieres live from Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta on Sunday, February 11th. The show will be hosted by comedian/social media sensation, Michael Blackson.

Yours truly, Maurita Salkey, got a chance to talk with Kyra on her current and future goals, as well as the role technology, is playing in the media industry.

Maurita Salkey/EUR: The BET Social Awards is the first network to create an award show catered to social media. How does it feel to be apart of history in the making?

Kyra Robinson: Excited! It is such an honor to executive produce the BET Social Awards. It’s nothing better than having an idea that becomes a reality.  Our world is ever-evolving. It went from newspaper to radio, than tv and now social media. So I am more than thrilled to be a part of paying homage to social media influencers who have made a career on the internet. It’s the beginning of something really cool.

MS/EUR: How important is it for black women to take leadership in the industry?

KR: Once upon a time, women, let alone black women couldn’t even vote in this country. To be able to now have a voice in this industry is more important than ever before. We are a huge driving force in this country and most importantly the economy. As a behind the scenes television producer, it’s amazing to have the ability to be a vessel of information to the public. It is our leadership and voice that ultimately shapes the culture.

MS/EUR: What was that moment like for you when you found out the show you produced on OWN was nominated at the NAACP awards?

KR: I was so grateful, beyond blessed. It’s an honor to see all the hard work and dedication myself and my staff put into the show finally pay off. It’s really a dream come true.

MS/EUR: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone in the media industry?

KR: Just keep pushing, keep fighting for what you want in life. With hard work and persistence, you can achieve your goals.

Robinson is not only proving hard works pays off, she is also setting the bar for especially women of color in the entertainment industry, showing them with a little belief in yourself and creativity, anything is possible.
