*Essence has announced this year’s headliners for Essence Festival 2018 and it’s a super-delicious line-up of #BlackGirlMagic.
Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott will each have a headlining set. Snoop Dogg and others will feature as special guests along with many more including The Roots, Xscape, Fantasia, and Miguel.
via NOLA:
The festival includes four days of music, culture, empowerment and entertainment. The nighttime concerts will feature more than 40 acts and will take place across five stages at the Louisiana Superdome.
For the first-time, the festival will also feature an ESSENCE Superlounge with “a unique DJ-curated experience–with offerings by actor/DJ Idris Elba, MC Lyte and more.” Also, for the first-time, the festival welcomes “an interactive music experience with The Read’s Kid Fury and Crissle hosting a Superlounge.”
Jackson previously performed at Essence in 2010 and her show featured hologram special effects and S&M-themes. Blige has headlined multiple times over the past decade, including in 2015 and 2017.
Badu and Scott are also Essence veterans and this year they’ll join forces with Snoop Dogg for a joint headlining performance curated by The Roots.
Xscape kicked off their 2017 reunion tour at last summer’s Essence Fest, but they were booked on one of the small “superlounge” stages. This year they will presumably rock out on the main stage.
Weekend ticket packages are on sale now with prices starting at $150. For information about tickets, accommodations and the latest news about the event, visit EssenceFestival.com.
