*Karrueche Tran is catching hell following her tweet mocking the drug cocktail “lean” — hours after rapper Fredo Santana died of a seizure.
Santana, 27, reportedly used “lean” — a drink made of prescription cough syrup and promethazine (an allergy medication) along with a soda drink like Sprite or Mountain Dew, plus ice and Jolly Rancher candies added for color and taste. The concoction, also called Purple Drank, can cause seizures among avid users.
Tran wrote in a now-deleted tweet Saturday morning, “LEAN IS WEAK AF #lame #corny #sorrynotsorry” and was hit with backlash for immediately.
Twitter thought she was casting judgement on Fredo’s death and went in immediately. Amid the firestorm, Tran took to Twitter with an apology.
“That totally came out the wrong way,” she wrote. “Wasn’t tryna offend anyone. I meant it in general terms. Bad timing.”
When someone asked why she was apologizing, the model said she believed what she said to be “1000% true,” but it wasn’t meant to be about Fredo.
“What I said was 1000% true,” she continued. “It was bad timing and seemed directed towards Fredo (RIP) which it wasn’t at all.”
Santana, the cousin of fellow Chicago rapper Chief Keef, was found dead by his girlfriend on the floor of his home, according to TMZ. He was the father to an 8-month-old son.
In recent months, Santana, whose real name is Derrick Coleman, was hospitalized for liver and kidney failure. He had previously admitted to being addicted to lean.
