Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Black Twitter wasted no time expressing outrage for VH1’s “Sorority Sisters” back in 2014, and the reality series was axed after one month over the backlash.

The series followed the lives of nine Atlanta area women and members of the four historically black sororities, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

One of the show’s stars was eventually expelled from her organization, and she is now reportedly taking legal action against her former sorority, claiming they kicked her out due to her appearance on the series.

According to theJasmineBRAND.comPriyanka Banks claims she learned that Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. relieved her of her membership in the prestigious organization via a “random Facebook posting.”

Banks says she learned on Jan. 13, 2015, that the Deltas had expelled her and four of “Sorority Sisters” co-stars. She claims she still has not received formal notice about her ejection.

The controversy, banks believes, stemmed from VH1’s reputation for “ratchet television,” a genre where black women are seen bickering, “using profanity, behaving violently and verbally tearing one another down.”

Banks is seeking punitive damages, alleging defamation, breach of contract and negligence, among other counts.
