The Weeknd Severs Ties with H&M After Racist Ad; Questlove, LeBron James Rip Company

*The Weeknd took to Twitter on Monday (Jan. 8) to announce he’s cutting all ties with H&M after a photo went viral of a black child modeling a green hoodie that reads “Coolest Monkey In The Jungle.”

“Woke up this morning shocked and embarrassed by this photo,” tweeted The Weeknd, who has collaborated with the Swedish clothing giant on two collections so far. “I’m deeply offended and will not be working with @hm anymore…”

The Weeknd wasn’t the only celeb to go public with outrage.

Questlove, took to Instagram, writing: “I’m sure the apologies are a coming. And the ads will be pulled. I’m certain there will Be media fixers and whatnot and maybe a grand gesture like a donation to some charity (donations under these circumstances are the corporate version #SomeOfMyBestFriendsAre move if there ever was one) all this tells me about @HM is that the seats in the boardroom lack something…wanna take a guess?”

As Quest predicted, H&M has since apologized for the controversial image: “We sincerely apologize for this image. It has been removed from all online channels and the product will not be for sale in the United States. We believe in diversity and inclusion in all that we do.”

LeBron James weighed in as well, posting a meme of the same young black model wearing a crown. “U got us all wrong! And we ain’t going for it!” wrote the NBA star. “Straight up! Enough about y’all and more of what I see when I look at this photo. I see a Young King!! The ruler of the world, an untouchable Force that can never be denied!”
