At least 13 Dead; Heavy Rains Trigger Flooding, Freeway Closures in Southern California

*Santa Barbara County in Southern California is the proverbial bulls-eye of a powerful storm on Tuesday that hammered the region with heavy rains, leading to the deaths of at least 13 people as well as mudslides, flooding and freeway closures.

Bill Brown, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff referred to Tuesday as “a very somber day,” and said the storm was directly responsible for the the 13 deaths.

“While we hope it will not, we expect that this number will increase as we continue to look for people who are still missing and unaccounted for,” Brown said.
