*New Line Cinema’s reboot of the 1970s blaxploitation classic “Shaft” has added Cliff “Method Man” Smith to the cast.

As previously reported, Samuel L. Jackson is reprising the role he first played in the 2000 film update directed by John Singleton, while Jessie T. Usher has been cast to play Shaft’s son, who, after long being estranged from his father, finds himself teamed up with his dad.

Smith, fresh from HBO’s “The Deuce,” will play an old friend of John Shaft’s (Jackson) from the neighborhood.

Tim Story is directing from a script by Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow. John Davis and Barris are producing, while Marc Fischer and Ira Napoliello are executive producing.

Regina Hall, Alexandra Shipp and Richard Roundtree also star.

The new film is due in theaters on June 14, 2019.

Smith currently hosts the TBS comic rap battle competition series “Drop the Mic.”
