Since then, Hannibal has been excelling in comedy roles and his unblemished career is a story of hard work, talent and sheer dedication. However, recent news of his arrest started a media frenzy which has brought the comedian back into the spotlight, but not in a positive beam.
An Account of What Went Down
The comedian was arrested on the basis of disorderly intoxication at 10:30 PM on December 9th, as the Miami Police Department conveniently tweeted about his arrest. This meant that the entire world knew instantly about the difficulties he experienced that night. To make matters worse, his arrest was caught on tape by onlookers who posted the video on YouTube and multiple social media platforms.

The video shows how the police handcuffed the comedian, while he tried to talk his way out of the situation. At one point in the video, Hannibal Buress can be heard asking the cops, “What am I detained for?” His speech was obviously slurred which made it evident that there was a possibility that the comedian did have a little too much to drink, but does that necessarily translate to him having a drinking problem? The content of the video further portrays how his fans are always on his side, since each onlooker was trying to convince the police to let the comedian go but to no avail.
Does He Really Have a Drinking Problem?
It’s evident from the video how bloodshot Hannibal’s eyes were, obviously meaning that he was certainly under the influence, and there is no doubt that the police handled the situation quite professionally. They did have a probable cause and gave Buress a fair chance to leave but he continued to address the police with profanity. According to the Miami Police Department, his bail was posted at 6:00 AM so the actor faced a very short amount of time behind bars.
Saying that Hannibal has a drinking problem based on a single event is blatantly unreasonable. It is highly probable that the comedian had a bad night of excessive drinking and there was nothing more to it and one isolated incident is not enough to label the iconic Hannibal Buress with alcoholism.
