*B.B. King’s Blues Band featuring Tito Jackson a member of the legendary musical family will be headlining the New Year’s Eve Guitar Drop on Beale Street on the east end stage at Fourth and Beale. This performance will be his first as the lead singer of the late B.B. King’s band.

The world-famous Beale Street draws thousands of party-goers, tourists, and visitors to ring in the New Year.

Memphis and Beale Street are known as the “birthplace of blues” because of musicians such as W.C. Handy, Albert King, Rufus Thomas, B. B. King, and other blues and jazz legends. They all played on the historic Beale Street and helped developed the style known around the world as the blues. Jackson will be added to this exclusive list of musicians as he is set to perform on Beale with B.B. King’s Blues Band.

“I’m excited to have the legendary Tito Jackson perform on Beale Street to ring in the new year in Memphis with B.B. King’s band and we look forward to Mr. Jackson making more great music in our city,” said Mayor Jim Strickland.

Jackson, formerly of the Jackson 5, announced at an October press conference in Memphis that he will be the new lead singer of B.B. King’s band. A lifelong Blues fan, Jackson will help to keep the musical legacy of B.B. King, The Jackson 5, and The Jacksons alive.

For more than a half of a century, the iconic B.B. King and B.B. King’s Blues Band defined the blues for the world averaging over 250 sold out concerts a year, with classics like “The Thrill Is Gone,” “Every Day I Have the Blues,” “How Blues Can You Get,” and “Why I Sing the Blues.” With Tito Jackson as the lead singer, the band has combined more than 100 years of musical talent while representing two legends.

Jackson will also be recording his first album with B.B. King’s Blues Band in Memphis at Ardent Studios, playing his guitar that he affectionately named Katie, in honor of his mother Katherine.

Their album will be released April 2018 and their world tour will also launch in 2018. One of the performing highlights of the remarkable career of Jackson is the unforgettable Jackson 5 reunion performance, on one of the most watched television specials, Motown 25.

The show signaled a pivotal point in his career and focused on arguably the greatest performer to ever grace a stage, Michael Jackson. In 1997, the Jackson 5 were ceremonially honored as inductees of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Jackson’s love of music can be transcended only by his undying love of God, family, and friends. His mark on music history and the rich legacy that he established is one that has stood the test of time and is one that will flourish for as long as there is a song to sing.

The New Year’s Eve concert, which is free and open to anyone 21 years old or older, is part of a nightlong celebration of Memphis music, including sets from multiple Memphis performers and a big fireworks finale. Beale
