*According to ET, Craig Melvin, the co-host of “Today” weekend could be tapped to replace Matt Lauer as co-host of Today.
A source says that both NBC execs and “Today” staff are down with the idea of Melvin, 38, as Lauer’s replacement. If you’re not familiar, Melvin is an “MSNBC Live” anchor/host on weekdays, and is co-anchor of “Today’s” Saturday edition.
“This would give the network the opportunity to make Melvin into a star at NBC,” a source told ET. “This would be clean slate.”
Melvin has been married to ESPN sports anchor Lindsay Czarniak since 2011. The couple has two children together.
