*Vanishing Pearls  (streaming now on UMC.TV) is inspired by the events of April 20, 2010 when over 4.9 million barrels of oil began spilling into the Gulf of Mexico, seeping into the Plaquemines Parish region of Louisiana, among many other tributaries. 

It made headlines as the BP or Deepwater Horizon oil spill, it lasted for a month and it’s been described as the worst environmental disaster in American history.

Out of the dregs of a once beautiful Gulf Coast, a core of African American fishermen have emerged to fight for justice and restitution.
