*Atlanta’s got 99 problems, and it looks like mayoral candidate, Mary Norwood, might just be one of them!

Last week, Rolling Out got hold of a jaw-dropping audio recording where Norwood used racially coded language during a Buckhead Young Republicans meeting back in June 2017.

After urging people not to record the conversation, she went on to blame her 2009 run-off loss to outgoing incumbent, Kasim Reed, on illegal voting tactics by claiming that he found voters who once lived in housing projects and bused them to voting booths. In the audio, she tells the audience, “It’s a lot harder to drive a van with six felons, you know guys who are going to commit felonies, if somebody’s watching.”

In case you missed it, on Friday, Mayor Kasim Reed addressed Norwood’s audio and allegation in an exclusive interview on NewsOne Now with Roland Martin. He shared, “It’s absolutely awful, and it is reflective of Mary Norwood, as that is the person who she is in private.” He continued, “I’m just grateful to you for actually doing a story on it because the kind of coded language that she used is exactly what Donald Trump did during his entire campaign.”

Also chiming in on the discussion were Attorney Robert Patillo (CBS Radio, Atlanta) and in-studio guests, Tiffany Cross (Managing Editor, The Beat DC), Michael A. Brown (Democratic Strategist/Fmr. Vice Chair, DNC Finance Committee) and Bishop Harry R. Jackson (Senior Pastor, Hope Christian Church).

Norwood will face-off against Keisha Lance Bottoms tomorrow – Tuesday, December 5. 43 years of African American leadership are on the line, and with weekend polling reports confirming that Norwood has taken a slight lead over Bottoms, time will only tell if said leadership remains in power.
