Colin Kaepernick Excluded From Player-Owner Meetings on Social Justice

*Colin Kaepernick is reportedly being frozen out of meetings on social justice between the NFLPA and NFL owners, according to a report from Slate.

A proposed Monday meeting between the NFL Players Coalition and the league that was supposed to include both Colin and commissioner Roger Goodell has been canceled, SB Nation has confirmed.

The sports site reports that Kaepernick’s legal team said they were unaware of the now-canceled meeting before seeing a press release from the NFL Players Coalition.

Despite certain NFL players proposing meetings that include him, and an NFL spokesperson indicating last week that he expected an invitation to be extended to Colin, his team was reportedly shut down when they reached out to both the NFLPA and the Players Coalition.

“We were verbatim told that Colin had no role,” Kaepernick attorney Mark Geragos told Slate. Deadspin also reports that Kaepernick’s legal team had no knowledge of a proposed meeting between Roger Goodell, Bob McNair, and Kaepernick before a letter from the Players Coalition was made public.

“We didn’t even know there was a meeting,” a lawyer on Kaepernick’s legal team said. “The press release was the first time we heard of any invite.”

Emails obtained by Slate between Kaepernick’s lawyers and the NFLPA appear to support the claim that he has not been invited to any player-owner meetings. These meetings have reportedly been scheduled by owners and the Coalition, without direct involvement from the Players’ Association.

Earlier in October, Kaepernick filed a grievance against the NFL alleging that his continued unemployment is the result of collusion among NFL owners.
