Going on Your First Long-Haul Flight? Consider These Items

*Travel is wonderful. It broadens the mind and gives you a well-needed break from the stresses of modern life, especially when doing it on your own.

However, the bad part about travel is that to get anywhere far-removed from your own country, you’ll have to take a very long flight.

If you’ve never done this before, you’ll probably feel an equal mix of excitement and fear at the prospect of spending 10+ hours on a plane.

The good news of having all that time on a plane is that there’s always entertainment and some sleep to be had, so you’ll get through it easily enough. That said, there are also a number of items that will make the time fly by a little quicker, and those are what we’re going to suggest right now. Make sure you’ve got one or all of these items before takeoff.

Noise-canceling headphones and a Kindle

It’s almost an inevitability that there will be a screaming child or raucous couple making enough noise to practically drown out the sound of the engines, but thankfully you don’t have to put up with those distracting sounds. Noise-canceling headphones have only gotten better and better over the years, to the point where you can listen to your favorite tunes or podcasts and be totally oblivious to the noises outside your ears. Trust us, these will be a savior on a long flight. We know it’s hard to pick a brand, as the likes of Sony, Bose, and Philips all seem like good options. However, read some non-biased reviews of the most popular and then decide. We also think a Kindle is a great idea, as it’s far better than packing 10 books and magazines in your carry-on luggage!

Travel companion

Any frequent flyer will agree that you spend a fair amount of time patting down your pockets or checking your bag to be certain your ticket and passport are safe. And then there’s your wallet and phone to worry about mid-trip! This is a lot of panic and stress on a flight where you shouldn’t really have to burden yourself about anything other than which tourist attractions to visit first. To combat this, many flyers pick up a designated passport holder or a travel companion. The latter especially, is big enough to hold many important things like your phone, ticket, credit cards, cash, and usually your passport too, but small enough to not be annoying to carry. Montblanc has some nice leather options in their range if you want something a bit classier and durable.

Ostrich Pillow Light

You’ve probably heard of the Ostrich Pillow: an oddly shaped product where you can basically hide for a quick nap. Well, here’s the Ostrich Pillow Light. True, it’s still a little odd to look at, but boy, does it more than make up for it in comfort. It works well as a good neck support or eye mask when you’re attempting to grab a few hours’ sleep on a flight. Unless you’re flying first or business class, it’s often quite difficult to find a comfortable spot in an airplane seat, but the Ostrich Pillow Light will no doubt help with that.
