It’s Official: Meghan McCain to Take Conservative Slot on ‘The View’

*After Jedidiah Bila made her abrupt exit from “The View” several weeks ago, there were immediate reports that Meghan McCain would replace her as the show’s conservative voice.

According to Variety, the swap is now official.

The daughter of Sen. John McCain is expected to start in early October, joining the panel of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Paula Faris, and Sunny Hostin.

As previously reported, Bila’s abrupt exit came days after Hillary Clinton’s appearance on “The View,” and the rumor was that Bila was reprimanded for asking the former presidential candidate tough questions.

ABC has yet to comment on the addition of Meghan McCain.

Per Variety:

Insiders say “The View” nabbed McCain because the show needs a stronger conservative voice, which it has been lacking since Elisabeth Hasselbeck left in 2013 when the series was buzzier, frequently making headlines for in-show sparring between the co-hosts with different political views.

McCain — the daughter of U.S. Senator and 2008 presidential nominee John McCain — has described herself as a Republican with liberal views on several social issues.

Today, McCain made news with her tweet about Donald Trump reportedly mocking her father, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer several months ago.

“What more must my family be put through right now?” she asked. “This is abhorrent.”

Axios reported that Trump has been mocking both John McCain and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., in private. Trump reportedly mimics John McCain’s dramatic thumbs down on the Senate floor that killed Republicans’ best chance at a repeal of Obamacare. His imitation of McConnell reportedly consists of slumping his shoulders and using “lethargic body language.”
