The star of Fox’s limited series “Shots Fired” returns to the small screen in Showtime’s “The Affair,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actress will recur on the Golden Globe-winning drama as Jenelle, a tough-as-nails principal of the charter school where Noah (Dominic West) teaches. She intrigues him, though she’s got a lot to prove to her school’s oppositional administration and faculty, who seem to fight her at every turn.

“The Affair,” from creators Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi, is currently in production on its fourth season in New York and Los Angeles. West, Ruth Wilson, Maura Tierney and Joshua Jackson star in the series that explores the emotional and psychological effects of an affair that destroyed two marriages, along with the crime that brings these individuals back together.

Season 4 finds each of the main characters in their own orbits, spinning further and further away from where they all began. Every character is involved in a new relationship, forcing them to decide if they’re ready and willing to leave the past behind for good.

Lathan is currently filming the Netflix movie “Nappily Ever After,” where she stars as a woman whose relaxer malfunction leads to an entire reexamination of her life.

The actress has also starred in feature films including “American Assassin,” “Alien vs. Predator,” “Contagion” and “Now You See Me 2.” She was nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award for her lead role in “Love and Basketball,” and also received a Tony nomination for her Broadway performance in A Raisin in the Sun.
