*Toni Braxton is back!
The R&B veteran today released the first single from her upcoming CD “Sex & Cigarettes,” her first solo album in more than seven years.
The seven-time Grammy winner and reality star co-wrote the lyrics with Royce Doherty, Kwame Ogoo, and Fred Ball (Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain”), who also produced the track.
“Deadwood,” which details a complicated love, introduces listeners to “an uncensored Braxton” that is reflected throughout the entire album, notes Essence.com.
Braxton tells the website that her 2013 album with Babyface, “Love, Marriage & Divorce, “was about the ins and outs of marriage. It was a collaborative project where I was able to speak from a woman’s perspective and Babyface spoke from a man’s perspective on relationships.”
However…
“‘Sex & Cigarettes’ is more about me feeling sexy, independent, and expressing my feelings,” she said. “I think for a long time I felt I had to make certain records, but now I want to just be free! I don’t want to be censored, I just want to focus on being an artist and creating good quality music that people can relate to.”
