*Harold “Hype” Williams will receive special recognition at VH1’s 2017 Hip-Hop Honors ceremony for his artistic contributions to hip-hop and lasting influence on the culture, reports Billboard.

During his heyday in the 90s, the prolific director took the unconventional approach in creating some of the most iconic music videos for such artists as Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, TLC, The Notorious B.I.G and Kanye West.

Williams is widely heralded for his signature aesthetics, which ranged from low and high-angle camera shots, unexpected visual effects and ample use of the fish-eye lens. His groundbreaking style has gifted the hip-hop culture with timeless visuals like Busta Rhymes’ futuristic “What’s It Gonna Be” and Missy Elliott’s seminal visual “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” where she wears the inflated garbage bag and a variety of stylish sunglasses.

The celebrated director is also responsible for writing the script for Kanye West’s “Runaway” short film and directed West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” “Stronger,” “Heartless” and more.

In addition to Williams, Martin Lawrence and Mariah Carey’s rap collaborations will be honored at the ceremony, hosted by actress Regina Hall. Missy Elliott, a 90s “game-changer” herself, will also hit the stage for the 90s block-party.

The star-studded event will be held at Paramount Studios on Sept. 17 and will air on Monday (Sept. 18) at 9 pm EST on VH1.
