*After his team gave up a 34-point lead in last weekend’s season opening loss to UCLA, Texas A&M’s African American coach Kevin Sumlin and his wife Charlene received a racist and threatening letter at their home.

“You suck as a coach! You’re a ni**er and can’t win! Please get out! Or else,” read the handwritten note, which Charlene Sumlin photographed and tweeted for all to see, along with the envelope it came in showing the return address.

“People of 2017: please tell me how any part of this is ok. And to the sender: did it occur to you that a child may open it?” Charlene wrote in her tweet.

Kevin and Charlene Sumlin have four children.

His college-aged daughter, Shelby Sumlin, retweeted the photo and wrote: “Imagine being a kid & reading this bs abt your dad. Things ‘fans’ say gets taken personal by more than just the coach. Humanity isn’t hard..”

No name was listed on the piece of racist mail. The listed return address is the Houston Country Club, which has reportedly been dodging media requests for comment ever since the tweet.

In a statement Thursday night, Texas A&M president Michael Young and athletic director Scott Woodward confirmed that the letter was sent to the Sumlin family home and issued a response. “We unequivocally condemn this disgusting and threatening letter. There is no excuse for hatred and, as a community, we will not allow the ignorance of some to intimidate any member of our community,” the statement said.
