*The Weeknd failed to show up at the VMAs on Sunday, and his camp has finally offered an explanation.
As previously reported, MTV on Aug. 7 had announced the crooner among the scheduled acts set to perform, along with Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Fifth Harmony, Lorde, Thirty Seconds to Mars, and Shawn Mendes. He was also nominated for four awards.
According to TMZ, his absence was due to a simple case of fatigue.
Here’s how it was put to us … The Weeknd’s been on the road for a prolonged period of time and just didn’t feel up to his VMAs gig. In his mind, he booked the gig a while ago, before concert fatigue set in, and he just felt differently in the days before the show.
The Weeknd’s no-show follows his abrupt cancellation of a private concert two hours before its scheduled start time on Friday. Organizers said the show was scrapped due to “unforeseen production issues” — however, sources told Variety that the proper permits were not secured.
