WE REMEMBER: Legendary Funnyman Jerry Lewis Dead at 91

*Wow,  it hasn’t even been 24 hours since we announced the death of Dick Gregory. Now, another legendary funnyman, Jerry Lewis,  the comedian, actor, singer and director — has died.

His death was confirmed in a statement tweeted by a reporter for the Las Vegas Review Journal.

“Legendary entertainer Jerry Lewis passed away peacefully today of natural causes at 91 at his home w/ family by his side,” according to the statement which didn’t mention the cause of death.

Lewis, whose foundation was a slapstick comedy, went on to find enormous fame when he  partnered with Dean Martin  in 1946.

Penn Jillette tweeted:

“Jerry Lewis just died. When I met him, I fell apart, just sobbed. I guess it’s time for that again.”

Lewis starred in a number of iconic films, including “The Nutty Professor” and “Damn Yankees.”

Lewis also was known to millions for decades as the emcee of the “Muscular Dystrophy Telethon” held every labor day weekend, where Lewis would raise money for 24 hours straight.

Jerry Lewis received a lifetime achievement award in 2009 by the Academy of of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
