Former NFLer Michael Vick Set to Coach the Kansas City Chiefs

Coaching the Kansas City Chiefs

*Michael Vick is back in the NFL, y’all…

And this time, rather than take to the field, the former Eagle QB is reuniting with head coach Andy Reid, who he played for during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, as a coaching intern with the Kansas City Chiefs.

According to multiple reports, Vick “will support KC’s preseason efforts, including all four preseason games.” He has done some coaching at the high school level, but this is his first opportunity to coach at the professional level.

“Vick will likely spend most of his time working with the quarterback unit, and helping to develop rookie passer Patrick Mahomes.”

In a statement to the Kansas City Star, Andy Reid said, “It’s been great for the players to bounce things off of him because he’s been in this offense before, so he understands it… Guys are attracted to him, they like his presence and the way he carries himself. They are not afraid to talk to him and likewise, he is not afraid to talk to them.”

Meanwhile, three weeks after Virginia Tech announced Vick would be inducted into the school’s athletics hall of fame on Sept. 22, several online petitions by animal rights groups are garnering 1000’s of signatures opposing Vick’s enshrinement.

Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock said he “underestimated” the level of public outcry over Vick’s induction.

“What I didn’t fully appreciate at all or I should have, and this is on me, I didn’t fully appreciate the impact it would have, for example, on the college of veterinary medicine here. The folks across campus also didn’t ask to get in the middle of this debate,” Babcock said.

“So while I absolutely support Michael Vick going into the hall of fame, and we are going to do that, I just apologize to those groups. We could have done a little bit better on that. And the national or some outside-the-Hokie constituency reaction, I underestimated that as well.”
