Stay Cool This Summer As These Black Actors Heat Up the Scene

Black Panther

*Marvel Studios rocked the world by dropping the first teaser for “Black Panther” a few weeks ago. And the reaction of the film’s star Chadwick Boseman confirmed for fans that being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is pretty damn exciting.

As audiences everywhere countdown to the film’s February 2018 release, EUR is here to remind you that you don’t have to wait until then to see many of your favorite black actors on the big screen.

Check out the list below of just a few projects where black stars will be gracing the big screen this summer.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

*Hannibal Buress, Donald Glover, Laura Harrier & Zendaya

The film will be a “coming-of-age high-school movie” with young Peter Parker  trying to balance his life with his web-slinging superhero act as Spider-Man. The story follows the events of “Captain America: Civil War.” Zendaya is set to star as Parker’s best friend Michelle.

Laura Harrier is a fresh face hitting the big screen in this movie as Peter Parker’s love interest Liz Allan. The studio is keeping mum on the exact roles of Glover and Burress, but you can check them both out in the official trailer.

The film opened in theaters on July 7.

Dark Tower

*Idris Elba

The fantasy epic, an update of the Stephen King novel of the same name, stars Elba as fabled last gunslinger Roland Deschain, who is seeking to find the titular tower and save his dimension, Mid World, from destruction by Matthew McConaughey’s evil sorcerer Walter Padick, AKA The Man in Black. Another familiar face featured in this movie is Dennis Haysbert as Stephen Deschain, Roland’s father.

The film drops August 4.

Hitman’s Bodyguard

*Samuel L. Jackson

In Hitman’s Bodyguard, the world’s top bodyguard Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) has to keep his new client and hit man Darius Kincaid (Jackson) safe. The two must work together and put their differences aside to make it to trial at the International Court of Justice on time.

The film is set to open August 18.

Kidnap

Kingsman: The Golden Circle and Kidnap

Berry stars as Karla Dyson, a mother who will stop at nothing to save her son in “Kidnap. “

This title has been on the shelf since 2014 when the film was completed, but due to Hollywood politics, the film was moved around from Oct. 9, 2015 to Feb. 26, 2016 to May 13, 2016 to Dec. 2, 2016 to March 10, 2017 and now finally slated for release on August 4, 2017.

When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, the Kingsman’s journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the U.S. These two elite secret organizations must band together to defeat a common enemy. Berry is rumored to star as the head of the CIA.
