Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Humble’ Sparks Controversy + Ludacris Samples Sisqó in New Song ‘Vitamin D’ [LISTEN]

humble causes controversy

*Last Thursday Kendrick Lamar released “Humble,” which may or may not be a track on a project that could drop April 7. Its lyrics and companion video have left many feeling some kind of way because it features a light-skinned model with her stretch marks proudly on display.

Some women on social media accused the rapper of using his lyrics to put down certain types of women (namely dark-skinned black woman) to uplift others.

In the song, Kendrick says “I’m so f*cking sick and tired of the Photoshop/Show me something natural like afro on Richard Pryor/Show me something natural like ass with some stretch marks.”

The lines in question made many women take to social media to blast the so-called revolutionary emcee for being “shallow” and “harmful.” One tweet said “Kendrick has a rather patronizing, shallow way of looking at situations relating to women. I wish could tell him about himself lol.” Another tweet said “He neglects to voice any care for how women feel about their bodies and speaks on his own selfish sexual desires.”

Lamar fans argue that the lines in question point out the rapper’s own preferences in terms of what he would like to see more of in media and social media, which is bombarded daily with images of surgically enhanced Caucasian and racially ambiguous women.

samples thong song for new track

Meanwhile, Ludacris just released his single “Vitamin D” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, and the sexy track samples Sisqó’s 1999 smash hit “Thong Song.”

After hearing his most famous hit would be flipped into a new Luda single, Sisqó apparently gave the track two thumbs up.

“Sisqó heard the track for the first time today while rehearsing for his show in Georgia and he thought it was dope once he realized Luda was on it,” a source told BET. “After nearly 20 years, seems like ‘Thong Song’ is still holding its own. Can’t be mad at that.”

In the fun tongue-and-cheek track, Luda plays the “doctor” role prescribing “Vitamin D” to his female fans in need.
