*The 186-week reign of Serena Williams atop the WTA rankings has come to an end.

Angelique Kerber returned to No. 1 on Monday (March 20), reclaiming the spot roughly six months after she originally topped women’s tennis for the first time, overtaking Williams by winning the US Open.

Williams reclaimed the No. 1 ranking in late January when she won the Australian Open for her 23rd Grand Slam title. But the athlete has not played since then because of an injured left knee.

Serena sat out the Indian Wells tournament that ended Sunday and will also miss the Miami Open that begins Tuesday.
