*Barack Obama has been named the recipient of the coveted John F Kennedy Profile in Courage Award for three areas of his presidency – two of which are on the chopping block of his predecessor’s administration.

The Kennedy family says Obama will be honored for his leadership on the Affordable Care Act and on climate change – two policies Donald Trump has ridiculed and is expected to change. Obama is also being recognized for opening up diplomatic relations in Cuba.

The 44th US President will follow in the footsteps of George H.W. Bush, civil rights leader John Lewis and 2016 honoree, Connecticut governor Dan Malloy.

JFK’s daughter Caroline Kennedy and her son Jack Schlossberg will present Obama with the trophy on May 7 at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston.

“President Kennedy called on a new generation of Americans to give their talents to the service of the country,” said Caroline Kennedy in a statement.

“With exceptional dignity and courage, President Obama has carried that torch into our own time, providing young people of all backgrounds with an example they can emulate in their own lives.”

The award is presented annually by the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation to public servants who have made courageous decisions of conscience without regard for personal or professional consequences. It’s named after JFK’s 1957 Pulitzer Prize-winning book Profiles in Courage.

“Faced with unrelenting political opposition, President Obama has embodied the definition of courage that my grandfather cites in the opening lines of Profiles in Courage: grace under pressure,” said Schlossberg.
