Weekend Watch: ‘A United Kingdom’ and ‘The Lego Batman Movie’ Worth Watching

The brilliant director who brought us “Belle,” Amma Assante, is back with “A United Kingdom.” Like “Belle,” “Kingdom” is also based on historical facts. “Kingdom” tells the story of the future king of Botswana Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo), who marries Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike), and causes an international and political brouhaha.

The film not only offers fine performances but reminds us all that although this took place in the 1940s, racism still prevails on an international level in spite of the fact Seretse and Ruth’s love is responsible for monumental changes in the UK and South Africa. ‘The LEGO Batman Movie’

The Lego Batman Movie,” directed by Chris McKay, evokes laughter not only because it spoofs the plastic millionaire crime fighter’s musings on other comic book characters, but all the pop-culture references. It is a bit long if the idea is to draw children into the on-screen action.

Some of the voices include Will Arnett, Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Cera, Zach Galifianakis, Zoe Kravitz, Mariah Carey, and Billy Dee Williams.

 ‘Fifty Shades Darker’

Last and least is “Fifty Shades Darker.” Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) is just what we all need right now—another sadistic billionaire and his submissive female masochists, including Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). In “Darker,” Christian and Ana rekindle sexual affair.

Expect more and more sex, trite dialogue, female frontal nudity, and more beatings. Hell, when are we going to see Christian get his ass kicked?
