‘Fences’ Leads Nominations for ‘AARP Movies for Grownups Awards’

*Denzel Washington’s “Fences” is a hit among the over-55 crowd.

The 1950s set drama based on August Wilson’s play has earned a leading eight nominations from its “AARP The Magazine Movies for Grownups Awards,” including nods for Washington in the best actor and best director categories.

The film also picked up nominations for best actress (Viola Davis), best-supporting actor (Stephen McKinley Henderson), best screenwriter (Wilson) and the uniquely AARP categories of best buddy picture, best grownup love story and best intergenerational film.

“Loving” earned a Best Film nod alongside “Lion,” “Manchester By the Sea,” “Sully” “La La Land” and “Silence.”

The AARP awards will be hosted by Margo Martindale and be held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on Feb. 6.
